Abstract | High precision measurement of hadrons and jet energy and momentum is one of the main challenges for detectors at future high energy collider experiments. Currently, two approaches are considered to achieve this goal. In the particle flow approach (PFA), a complex highly segmented calorimeter system is required to identify and to track all particles in a jet. On the other hand the dual readout recording of both scintillation and Cerenkov light in an active medium allows extracting the electromagnetic fraction of the total shower energy on an event by event basis. Recent progress in heavy scintillating fiber crystal production methods offer interesting perspectives for the design of a homogeneous but finely structured calorimeter based on the dual readout principle. This paper reports on recent developments in the production of heavy scintillating crystal fibers. It presents a calorimeter concept based on such technology that allows for a simultaneous high precision measurement of the complete set of shower parameters such as the direction, the spatial distribution of the energy deposition and its composition in terms of electromagnetic, charged and neutral hadrons content. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
