Abstract	Due to the insecurity of Internet, many enterprises and schools develop and adopt a Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology for secure intercommunication in this global open network. VPN arouses people's attention with its characteristics of safe, reliable, economical and effective transmission via a public network. This paper introduces the concept of VPN, its technological composition, classification, application and implementation. Because the education network access speed is slow, in addition visiting some data resources of the library limit the IP address range, we can't get access to the digital inner resources of school library outside the university. This article has solved library resources question accessed outside the university. It describes in detail the establishment of PPTP VPN servers, focuses on three VPN users' dialing methods aimed at different operating systems, and presents the approaches to handling common errors.
