| Description | This book is a humble attempt of the institute where various rules or privileges provided by the Constitution of India in connection with Government services or jobs to Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes people are explained in lucid way. This handbook is a compilation containing Government Acts, Rules and Regulations, orders etc. on the Government Reservation policies both Central and State Government on the reservation of posts in services etc. for Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes. Attempt has also been made to include all the necessary OMs Circulars Notifications etc. in this volume. Incorporation of the orders of the Honourable Supreme Court in three leading cases was necessary due to their frequent references in the context of reservation policy while the orders are not always available when required. Discrimination against groups of citizens on grounds of caste, creed, religion, language, national origin, occupational pattern has been observed in human society since time immemorial. In India too certain groups or categories of people have long been subjected to discrimination due mainly to the fact that their status is ascribed to them by birth in certain caste, creed and tribal groups. Their problems can be understood only in terms of the basic character of Indian society which consists of a multitude of closed status groups with unequal ranks, each with its own privileges and disabilities supported by traditional sanctions. These categories or groups of oppressed or discriminated people are referred to as The Backward Classes what further can be classified into three broad categories like (a) Scheduled Caste or Dalits, (b) Scheduled Tribes and finally (c) the Other Backward Classes, while the first two categories are listed in the Constitution and the third group is not listed and defined very closely. The third group happens to be the most heterogeneous and highly complex and their social structure varies from place to place. In order to make arrangement for accelerated progress of these communities the Constitution has under Article 341 and 342 made provision for identification of these communities under two Schedules namely Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
