| Description | The report is divided into four chapters. The chapter I delineates the geographical location, climate and socio-economic, demographic and characteristic features of the Porja tribe. The second chapter reveals that the approaches and strategies for socio-economic development among the Porjas. In the Chapter III an attempt to assess the available development facilities in identified Porja villages and evolve schemes for comprehensive development under Family and Area based programmes. The final chapter delineates the sector wise and scheme-wise financial implications in the study area. The Porja tribe have 3 sub-groups Bondo, Konda, Parangi porja and this population is located in eastern ghats of Vishakhapatnam district in AP and Odisha distributed in 7 tribal development blocks. Their economy is agro-forest based, practice both shifting and settled cultivation. The aim of this different approach and strategy is to bring them to above poverty line. The villages were identified and different issues such as land use, resource inventory, land holding, education, etc are considered for development. To assess the felt needs sample study is conducted, necessary infrastructure under area-based programmes, to enable the Porja households to crosses the poverty line. For persistent backwardness of Porja a modified integrated development approach which is a combination of family based and area-based programme adopted to tackle problem. The funds under sub plan will be utilised to provide infrastructure facilities which will form the base for implementation of family-based programmes to develop Porjas. The available facilities are assessed in the identified villages helping in filling the gaps in development efforts. There are 15 primary schools, 3 upper primary, 3 ashram schools,1 high school are the educational institutions available.1 PHC and 3 sub centers, PVD and first aid centre for animals,15 drinking water wells and 31 cisterns, 3 domestic requirement depots, 24 approachable roads, 10 electrified villages, 1 Grameena bank are the facilities provided for all the 172 villages. ploughs, bullocks, carts, agriculture implements, drinking water wells, etc are the few felt needs of the population. Different budget amount was allocated for different purposes and needs. The identified villages of Porja fall within the sub plan area and the development is taken care by the ITDA. The assessment of available facilities in the identified villages of Porjas help us in identifying the gaps in development effort. Different budgets required for development and amount released for development are discussed. The main aim of this scheme is to create among primitive tribals about various rehabilitation schemes like social forestry, horticulture etc. for landless and podu cultivators and various agricultural schemes for people with lands and about various constitutional safeguards, protective legislations etc. The training programmes are to be conducted at Block/ Mandal headquarters by the staff of ITDA. This study proposed to conduct 10 training programmes per year with tribals per programme thus 50 programmes during the 5 years period. The details of the programmes also discussed in the report. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
