| Description | The book Socio Cultural Activities and Reformers of the Rabhas is an attempt to draw life sketches of pioneering Rabha personalities, who rendered tremendous service for socio cultural and political development of the Rabhas. The significance of such pioneering personalities towards the development of the society is noteworthy. It is pertinent to point out that the study of socio cultural activists and reformers is of paramount importance because of the fact that such luminaries have brought about major socio psychological change in a backward tribal society. The social mobility and structural changes that have been brought about by social activists and reformers are based on sacrifice, tolerance, confrontation, persuasion, protest, challenges etc. Hence, the role of such promising personalities towards the development of the greater Assamese society and the Rabha society in particular cannot be ignored. The Rabhas since the inception of the society have produced a number of social activists and reformers who have been able to establish niche in local and regional levels and have contributed largely in the process of development of the community in different levels and capacities. All of them deserve appreciation and need to highlight their valuable contributions to the world. But due to lack of proper interest of the concerned authority most of the personalities have lost their identity in our elite world. Most of them of course left no records resulting an unfortunate lapse in documentation. These heroes are indispensable part of our society. Their uncompromising dedication to nation and community are always adorable for us. Here an attempt has been made to draw biographical sketch of the forgotten pioneers, whose words, works and views have become path maker for the community as such. In the book biographical sketches of thirteen of such personalities namely, Gobardhan Sarkar, Prasanna Kumar Pam, Rajen Rabha, Rajen Pam, Jogendra Nath Bantho, Jananeta Sarat Chandra Rabha, Hakim Rabha, Harimohan Sarkar, Anandi Bala Rabha, Moni Rabha, Listi Rabha Rongkho and Prakash Rabha have drawn. |
