| Abstract | A model for assessing the probability of broken lines and collapsed towers under ice storms based on Extreme Value Theory (EVT) and Copula function is presented. In this model, the Generalized Pareto Distributions (GPDs) of meteorological variables, such as wind speed and freezing precipitation are proposed. A probability distribution of ice thickness is developed, the probability distributions of ice loads and wind loads on transmission lines are analyzed. Further more, considering the dependence of ice loads and wind loads, a load joint probability distribution is estimated by the Gumbel Copula function. Based on this, the assessment model of the probability of broken lines and collapsed towers under ice storms is constructed. The accuracy and validity of this model is demonstrated with comparison between numerical results and the historical datas of Chen Zhou power transmission systems. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
