| Abstract | An efficient branch and bound-interior point methodology (B&B-IPM) is proposed to solve security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) problem with DC network model. The SCUC problem is decomposed into single-hour SCUC problems, each formulated as the mixed-integer convex program (MICP) to allow fast convergence to the global optimum of the convex relaxation. The MICP-based single-hour SCUC problem is solved by B&B-IPM method hour-by-hour. During the B&B process, the best first search and the depth first search strategy is combined to expedite the computation, and a modified B&B is introduced to find a near-optimal feasible solution in a shorter computation time. For testing the proposed approach, a modified IEEE 118-bus system with 36 thermal units, a modified IEEE 118-bus system with 54 thermal units, and a modified IEEE 678-bus system with 170 thermal units are analyzed over a period of 24 hours. Comparison of the results with the mixed-integer linear program (MILP) based single-hour SCUC problem, the MICP-based single-hour SCUC can make an improvement in the quality of solution. The numerical results indicate that the proposed approach is efficient and applicable to the large-scale day-ahead SCUC calculation. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
