Abstract	The connection of distributed generation (DG) to distribution networks increases the fault current and disturbs the distribution protection system. Location and size of DG connected to distribution system has significant effect on protection system. In this paper a novel index is defined for evaluation of distribution system risk level. The risk level is calculated using the probability of changing temporary fault to permanent interruption as function of DG location and its outage cost for each lateral feeder. Numerical results are determined by using a distribution feeder for testing accuracy and applicability of the new proposed solution.
