| Abstract | Summary form only given. Recent 2-D MHD simulations of large diameter argon gas-puff Z-pinch loads using PLIF (planar laser induced fluorescence) initial density profiles have shown that the radiative emission and absorption characteristics of the plasmas are critically affected by the formation and evolution of nonuniform structures and inhomogeneities. In drive toward the design of large diameter loads having an optimum PRS performance, therefore, it is important to understand the complex nonlinear interaction between these multidimensional structures and the ambient radiation, and the resulting effects on the nonlocal radiative absorption and energy transport processes and the equation of state of the plasma-radiation ensemble. In this study, we will investigate their interaction and effects through a detailed postprocess analysis of the plasmas during the various stages of the implosion process using the AXSTRAN 2D non-LTE radiation ionization dynamics code in conjunction with the SPECAM 3D non-LTE spectra and image synthesizer code. In particular, our analysis will focus on the temporal and spatial evolution of the electron temperature and ion density, and the K- and L-shell radiative power densities.
