Abstract	This paper describes a DARPA seedling initiative that analyzed, simulated, and assessed the force-multiplying payoff potential of various ground-based C3I technologies for stability and support operations (SASO). The initiative was called sensing and patrolling enablers yielding effective SASO (SPEYES). A variety of daily-occurring threats, challenges, and manpower-intensive tasks facing ground forces performing SASO missions in a post-combat environment were identified. Moreover, a collection of existing and emerging technologies to address these threats, challenges, and tasks were characterized and modeled within a simulation framework. Using "cordon and search" as our SASO problem focus, our analysis shows that promising force-multiplying payoffs are possible using an array of low-cost sensing, situational awareness, C2 and shaping technologies. We describe these results using various performance metrics
