Abstract | The antenna diagnosis is an important part of the antenna measurement systems. It is crucial to be able to identify the faulty regions of reflectors or array antennas in order to improve their overall performance. No matter how accurately an antenna is built there are cases where the presence of the distortion is inevitable. These cases include the recent developed deployable spaceborne reflector antennas where the surface is naturally distorted. Moreover the thermal effects can also cause certain reflector surface distortions. Consequently it is crucial to be able to diagnose a reflector antenna and determine the position and shape of the surface distortions. The microwave holography is one of the methods which have proved to be very valuable in detection of the faulty areas of the antenna under the test [1]. For the reflector antenna measurements, the study of the holographic images can reveal the location and in many cases the amount of the distortion. The valuable information gained using this technique can be further used to correct the degradation due to the surface distortion. This paper details the utility of microwave holography in the Bi-polar planar near-field systems. The concept of reconfigurable reflectarray antennas for example can then be used to compensate the effect of the surface distortion [2]. |

It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
