| Abstract | There is great interest in designing a single antenna to operate from the low VHF band up to several GHz for both commercial and military applications. Commercial services such as WLAN and UMTS operate up to 5 GHz. Additionally, for military communications (SINGARS, UHF SATCOM, and EPLRS) the operational interest ranges from 30 to 3000 MHz (a 100:1 bandwidth). Conventionally, several radiators of various sizes and shapes are required to cover such a large bandwidth. It is, therefore, worthwhile to develop a single small aperture incorporating theses functionalities to reduce the complexity. Previous efforts focused on a low-profile inverted-hat antenna generating VP radiation over the horizon [1]. The discone [2] and double discone antennas [3] also exhibit large impedance bandwidths. However, their highest operational frequency is limited by the radiation pattern. That is, as the frequency increases, sidelobes becomes dominant. The focus of this work is to propose a design that also leads to a consistent dipole-like pattern over 140:1 bandwidth (100 MHz to greater than 14 GHz). A dipole prototype was also built and tested to avoid issues with finite ground planes. However, in practice a monopole configuration is likely to be employed. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
