| Abstract | More and more growing demand of the industry for implementation of completely passive sensor system is observed. In many rising applications a wired connection between the sensor and the data processing system cannot be installed and a need increases for wireless sensors that require no active elements such as power supplies, signal processing circuits or batteries. Recently the first sensor based on the electromagnetic (EM) transduction principle has been reported [1]-[3]. The operating mode of such sensor is the following: an applied pressure force generates a displacement of a thin membrane located above a planar millimeter-wave resonator. Such displacement causes the modification of the electromagnetic field distribution around the resonator and a shift in resonant frequency occurs. Pressure cell prototypes with 50µm high resistivity silicon membrane were fabricated and a sensitivity of 370MHz/bar has been measured [3]. In [4]-[5] the interrogation of such passive sensors by a frequency-modulated signal for the remote measurement of pressure is proposed but no experimental proof of concept has been reported. In the proposed measurement chain the wireless transmission of data and the measurement of pressure share the same electromagnetic wave. The chain requires no active power supply and no signal processing circuitry. We show here for the first time that the remote EM interrogation of an antenna loaded by the passive pressure sensor allows the wireless derivation of the pressure from the analysis of the backscattered signal. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
