NDLI: Crystallization behavior and Mossbauer studies of the R/sub 6/-(Fe,Nb)/sub 88/-B/sub 6/ alloys with R=Nd, Pr, Dy

Abstract	We have prepared a new series of R-Fe-B alloys with R=Nd, Pr, and Dy having the Y/sub 3/Fe/sub 62/B/sub 14/ structure using the melt-spinning technique. This metastable phase when annealed at higher temperatures transforms to the R/sub 2/Fe/sub 14/B/sub 1/+/spl alpha/-Fe phase. We have studied the crystallization behavior of these alloys. /sup 57/Fe Mossbauer studies have shown that the as-spun samples were amorphous and the ribbons annealed at 600-620/spl deg/C contain the metastable Y/sub 3/Fe/sub 62/B/sub 14/ type structure with /spl alpha/-Fe. The analysis of the Mossbauer spectra of the R/sub 3/Fe/sub 62/B/sub 14/ phases has yielded average hyperfine fields of 229 kG at 295 K and 315 kG at 17 K.
