| Abstract | The study aimed at evaluating the effects of cadmium and selenite ions on protein synthesis and metallothioneins content in mice liver after 2 h, 8 h, 24 h and 14 days of exposure. Our studies revealed that cadmium suppressed protein synthesis after 2 h and 24 h, but activated after 8h and 14 days. Also, the endogenous mRNA translation were reduced under any exposure to cadmium, meanwhile, metallothioneins content was decreased after 2 h, but then was progressively increasing up to 492% after 14 days. Meantime, selenite did not influence metallothioneins content, caused mild activation of protein synthesis, and slightly suppressed the endogenous mRNA translation. The combined treatments with cadmium and selenite favored toward resisting of protein synthesis to cadmium after 2 h and 24 h of intoxication. Besides, selenite also protected translation against cadmium in cell-free systems, but did not attenuate effects of cadmium on metallothioneins content. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
