Abstract	A model reactor has been constructed for water disinfection using dielectric barrier discharge with water serving as the dielectric. Various reactor configurations have been tested using Escherichia coli at an initial concentration of $3×10^{5}$ CFU/ml. The treatment was conducted with an input power of about 20 W and the resulting bacterial load reduction was measured as a function of treatment time and average input power. The investigation included the measurements of dissolved hydrogen peroxide concentrations and pH. Plasma characterization included electrical measurements and visible and UV emission during treatment. Preliminary scale-up study has been conducted using this reactor model.
