Abstract | Deep excavation and supporting structure is a space system which has Length, width and depth. Spatial effect should be considered in the design of deep excavation. The concept of utilization factor of soil pressure is proposed and calculation method of utilization factor of soil pressure is established based on conventional design methods on deep excavation of plane strain problem. Comparison of an engineering example and results of field test show that calculation method of utilization factor of soil pressure proposed is feasible. The form of horizontal displacement of the top beam is proposed by analysis of the actual force, and practical examples show that the assumption is reasonable which offer theoretical basis for design of spatial effect of deep excavation. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
