| Abstract | Due to the advantages of gearless, high thrust density and high efficiency, PM linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) has attracted more and more attentions recently, which is pretty suitable for the long stroke transportation systems. In order to simplify structure and improve thrust force performance, a novel PMLSM with segmented-armature and non-overlapping windings is proposed. The analytical formula of thrust force is derived based on energy method and harmonic method, which is validated by two-dimensional finite element method (FEM). It is found that (3m+1) order and (3m+2) order harmonic components of thrust force are eliminated, while the 3m order ones are amplified. Moreover, the selection principles of slot-pole number combination and interval distance are obtained. Finally, the thermal analysis shows the novel structure has better heat radiation than that of the conventional one. The result shows the novel structure has excellent driving performance, simple manufacture processes, possibility of modular production and good heat radiation compared with conventional PMLSM. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
