| Abstract | Niobium-aluminum precursor strands were fabricated using the conventional jelly roll method with two Nb:Al volume ratios, 3:1, and 5:1. These mono-elements were restacked in 7-, 19- and 36-core arrangements and drawn down to wires approximately 0.8 mm and 0.4 mm in diameter. Short lengths of wire were resistively heated under high vacuum to temperatures as high as 2200/spl deg/C for various times, and either allowed to cool by radiation plus lead conduction or quenched into liquid gallium. Vacuum cooling led to a disordered A15 phase, which was then ordered by annealing at 800/spl deg/C; gallium quenching tended to produce the bcc phase, which could be transformed into A15 also by annealing for various times at 800/spl deg/C. The superconducting properties of the final wires were examined by vibrating-sample magnetometry (/spl chi//sub dc/ and T/sub c/) as well as transport J/sub c/ measurement. Best results so far are for a 5:1 Nb:AI volume ratio sample Ga quenched from 2000/spl deg/C with a secondary reaction of 800/spl deg/C/3 h, giving J/sub c/=4.5/spl times/10/sup 8/ A/m/sup 2/ at 12 T, with a T/sub c/=18-18.5 K. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
