Abstract | Opportunistic networks are type of ad-hoc networks which are formed when humans carrying portable computers, mobile devices move around and come into contact with other devices. The basic idea is that information ow in these networks relies on human mobility, making such networks human-centric. The communication here is asynchronous, hence these networks can be used when there is no direct connectivity between the source and the destination. Over the past decade, several models have been designed to exploit content sharing in oppor- tunistic networks. But none of these models (to the best of my knowledge) provide an estimate of how much time would it take for end-to-end communication. The usability of such systems can be greatly improved, if the sender knows the above estimates prior to the transmission. Also most of these models exist just as a mathematical theory and the practical feasibility of such models remain unknown. In this report, we present the design of A-PRIORI : our system to facilitate e cient content sharing in opportunistic networks. It gives a prior estimate of the expected time it would take to transfer the le depending on the current context, by working out the expected le transfer path before transmission starts. Our system works with the minimum use of infrastructure net- works, as it utilizes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct which are ad-hoc in nature. The basic working, mathematical and graphical theory behind A-PRIORI is general and can be applied for content sharing in any scenario which would bene t from it. However, to demonstrate the feasibility of our model we have implemented a working prototype for IIIT-D. |
