| Abstract | Software organizations are among the main responsible for global economic growth and economic globalization. The products and services provided by software organizations, present in most people daily lives, are the main indicators of the importance that knowledge has reached in the last decades as an intangible asset. Considering this importance and the fact that the software development process itself is an activity of intensive knowledge usage, this research aims to deepen scientific knowledge about knowledge management through a research carried out in a software organization, using methodological procedures of grounded theory as a qualitative research method. The research followed guidelines provided by Strauss and Corbin (2008) and, guided by the method described by the authors, carried out cycles of data collection and analysis, from 2013 to 2015, at an software organization from the city of Florianópolis, Brazil. According to the method used, the research goal is a substantive theory composed by a set of categories and subcategories identified in cyclical analysis performed on the data collected. The research results support that knowledge management in the software organization is important for the security and retention of organizational knowledge, as well as planning and control of the activities carried out by its employees. In addition, there are consequences of this management: the support to employees’ development and better organization of company’s knowledge. The research also revealed that the results of knowledge management were obtained through application of techniques such as: creating a culture of documenting and updating organizational procedures; regular meetings with clear objectives within and between the different teams; participation in research projects and usage of technological tools to support knowledge management. |
