| Abstract | The continuous monitoring of voltage characteristics in electric power systems, such as in grid-connected power converters, is required for power quality assessment and control purposes. This paper presents a fast method to estimate the fundamental frequency of the grid voltage in balanced three-phase systems containing harmonic distortion. The proposed solution is based on a fast algebraic method, which is able to calculate the frequency of a pure sinusoidal signal. Due to the presence of harmonic distortion in the grid voltage some processing is previously carried out, involving coordiante transformations and several repetitive filters. Simulation and experimental results prove the validity of the method in balanced three-phase systems containing harmonic distortion. Furthermore, a fast and accurate estimation of the frequency is obtained even in the presence of amplitude and frequency variations. The response time achieved is around half the period of the fundamental voltage component. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
