| Abstract | Solar water heating systems involve several innovations and a number of mature renewable energy technologies that enable efficient energy conversion. The thermal efficiency of solar heat collectors strongly depends on the metallurgical characteristics of the weld between the collector panel and the heat transfer tube. Typically, the welding quality is evaluated by empirical criteria, based, for instance, on measuring the mechanical strength of the spot welds. Little or no use has been made of methods that monitor the welding process and correlate welding conditions with mechanical strength and thermal efficiency. The main objective of the present work is to monitor temporally and spectrally investigate the optical emission generated during laser welding in the fabrication of solar heat collectors and correlate its optical characteristics with mechanical and metallographic data. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
