| Abstract | This paper presents an analytical approach for the calculation of end winding inductance in motor windings. The method aims to provide a rapid and accurate solution for inclusion in motor and drive design, analysis and simulation programs. In this paper, Laplace's equation is first applied to derive the magnetic vector potential within the end winding region. The flux density is then obtained from the magnetic vector potential. Hence, the inductance can be determined by consideration of the flux linkage. This analytical method is experimentally verified using a specially constructed experimental rig. Comparison with other available methods is also made. It is found that the presented method has a better accuracy than the others based on the experimental results. The experiments also show that the end winding inductance can be increasingly significant as the stack length decreases |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
