Description | This introduction gives a brief historical and descriptive summary of the work done by the National Planning Committee and a brief statement of consolidated accounts of the entire work of the Committee during ten years or more. The Terms of Reference to the 29 Sub-Committees outline the main scope of the report, and the resolutions on each report, interim or final, which were considered at the several plenary sessions of the Planning Committee form the bulk of this volume. Their coordination and integration are attempted in the several volumes of the National Planning Committee Series. Of the 26 volumes listed at the back, three or four are entirely contributed by the Hon. Gen. Secretary, while in every other volume, an introduction correlates and integrates each particular report with all the rest in the series. A summary of developments at the end brings the matter up-to-date, both of which were contributed by the same authority. Implementation of the recommendations of the subcommittees as well as of the main committee provides the main outline of what a national plan should be and, as such, ought to be interesting for every reader interested in comprehensive planning on a nation-wide scale. |
