Description | "To the Students" is a collection of various speeches and articles written for youngsters by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi's messages to students often conveyed his vision for the future of India and the qualities he believed were essential for its leaders. His guidance aimed to inspire young people to become responsible, ethical, and compassionate leaders. Students and youngsters had participated extensively in the Non-Cooperation and Civil Disobedience Movements, and Gandhiji recognized their great importance in political as well as constructive social and cultural programs. Furthermore, he saw students as the building blocks of an independent India. To the Students contains his articles published in Young India and Navjivan between 1921 and 1940 and touches on almost every facet of student life and questions of education and politics. It devotes attention to various ways in which they can participate in important political events, as well as how they should conduct themselves during strikes and protests. Furthermore, the essays in the book also touch upon questions such as personal discipline, good behavior and hygiene, and the practice of ahimsa. Gandhiji also places considerable stress on the need for the elimination of untouchability and the maintenance of communal harmony. A cursory glance at the outline of contents will show that Gandhiji touched on every aspect of a student's life. It will also reveal that his greatest emphasis was on religion, character, and service. He knew the great importance of youth, and more especially of studentship, and saw the vital need to direct its perplexities, enthusiasm, and energy along lines that would bring the greatest happiness to it and to the nation and the world. First published on the Congress Golden Jubilee (December 28, 1935) With the belief that the youth will shape the future, the message the collection transfers is still relevant today. This is the fifth edition of the book published on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2, 1945). The second and third editions were published on Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October), 1938, and 1941. The fourth edition was published on Jallianwala Bagh Day (April 13, 1943). These writings and speeches will remind the students of their duty to their motherland and awaken in them the spirit of selfless service and heroic sacrifice. |
