Author | Shah, K. T. |
Description | The author, K. T. Shah, the then Hon. Secretary of the National Planning Committee, was an influential Indian economist, politician and social activist who played a significant role in shaping India's economic and social policies. This book by the author is an important contribution that holds significance in the context of India's economic and developmental policies and is focused on discussing the concept of economic planning and its implications for India's development. The book was written at a time when India was grappling with the challenges of poverty, underdevelopment and colonial legacy. It contributed to the early discourse on economic planning to address these challenges. The book was published in 1947, just before India gained independence from British rule. As India embarked on its journey as a newly independent nation, the concepts and ideas discussed in the book were influential in shaping the country's economic policies and development strategies. The book argued for government intervention in key sectors of the economy to promote equitable growth, reduce poverty and ensure social welfare. India's Five-Year Plans, which were instrumental in guiding the country's economic development, drew inspiration from the ideas presented in K. T. Shah's book. The emphasis on planned development and resource allocation influenced the policy decisions made during the early phases of India's planning process. The book highlighted the importance of addressing social inequalities and promoting social justice through economic planning. K. T. Shah's ideas contributed to the incorporation of equity and social welfare considerations into India's development policies. 'India's National Plan' is part of the broader literature on development economics and planning. It represents a seminal work that reflected the economic and social concerns of its time and contributed to the intellectual foundations of development planning in India. |
