| Abstract | Some breakups are seen on the sandstones, which are used in historical artifacts as well, in consequence of constitutional or external factors. Breakup problems are mostly observed in carbonated sandstones. Entering of water into the body of the stone is one of the most important factors those trigger the breakups. Reserving the intrinsic material in the historical artifact is the base of restoration. So, it is aimed to use surface protection resin for the purpose of reserving the sandstone from water and its negative effects. In experimental studies, samples from sandstone formation(Ke an Formation) having similar characteristics have been taken, because intrinsic material in the historical artifact cannot be used. These samples have been made into cube samples being cut with the aim of using in the experiments. Surface protection resin has been applied on some of the cube samples and the rest ones have been left in their natural state. Effects of the surface protection resin on sandstones have been tried to be determined as a result of data obtained from samples those have been subjected to water absorption and surface hardness strength. |
