| Description | Humans are both benefit and threat to aircraft systems. On the benefit side, humans perform a vital role when the aircraft is faced with an adversity. On the threat side, humans suffer from cognitive bias that distorts their ability to make high-risk decisions. Humans must comply with the basic rule that they and automated systems must understand the intent of the other. The human in the loop rule is essential for the recovery of the aircraft from adverse situations. Severe catastrophes have resulted when these principles were violated. The conventional view is that humans are part of the system and as such their responsibility for assuring the safety of the system cannot be ignored. The incorporation of the measures requires intensive training and a conscious effort to integrate the human in the system, Book Name: Systems Approach to the Design of Commercial Aircraft |
