| Description | In this chapter, we will focus on social work at the points where mental health and social life intersect and in situations where other kinds of health and welfare services are delivered. Fortunately, there is a much better understanding developing at the level of public policy that health and wellbeing are intimately connected with social and psychological factors. On the ground, this simply means that we should expect to find that mental and physical health and psychosocial problems will probably be interconnected. In Chapter 1 we defined the domain of social work practice as that of the social context and social consequences of mental illness. Clearly, the interface between mental illness and a range of other social problems like homelessness, income security, family welfare and family violence is a key aspect of social work practice.
