| Description | This chapter provides the case study that demonstrates the success achieved in placing a supported employee in Boeing's print shop. The print shop manager commented that the print shop's bindery had a high employee turnover rate in the past. The Boeing Company is well known for having built more airplanes than any other company. Boeing is involved in space vehicles, helicopters, electronics, computing services, and telecommunications. Boeing has a long history of hiring and promoting qualified persons who have disabilities. Recognizing the advantages of hiring individuals with disabilities, Boeing established the office of disability services. In 1989, Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union (lAM) decided to create a landmark project whereby a joint effort would be conducted to assist disabled workers in returning to work as soon as possible. In implementing the lAM/Boeing agreement, it was sometimes necessary to break long-held attitudes and stereotypes regarding disabled employees. Book Name: Reasonable Accommodation |
