Description	Sears, Roebuck and Company, originated in 1886 and incorporated in 1893, operates approximately 800 multi-line retail stores and 1200 specialty stores in the United States. Stores are located in Canada and Mexico. Sears employs more than 300,000 people, and its headquarters is located in Illinois. Sears hosts a Programable Day annually as an addition to traditional hiring and recruitment efforts like visits to college campuses and participation in a wide variety of job fairs. In January 1993, Sears contracted with Ability Consulting Services of Austin, Texas to assist in the evaluation of needs and to find appropriate technology solutions. Consistent with a long history of providing individual accommodations, Sears was aggressive in making its stores accessible to associates and customers with disabilities. Modifications resulted from an extensive survey sent to each store regarding existing accommodations for people with disabilities.
