| Abstract | The modulation method of modular multilevel converter (MMC) is one of the most important issues in practical engineering. Here, an improved modulation method based on the dual queues is proposed. Firstly, the on-state queue and off-state queue are established in ascending order of the capacitor voltage. Also, the maximum voltage deviation among the submodules (SMs) is obtained. Secondly, when the inserted number of SMs changes, the on-state queue and off-state queue are adjusted according to the direction of the arm current. Thirdly, if the capacitor voltage imbalance exceeds the set value, further adjustments are made to the two queues by additional control actions. With this modulation method, the capacitor voltages of SMs do not need to be sorted, the switching frequency can be decreased and the calculating time can be reduced. A digital simulation model of MMC-based high-voltage DC with 200 SMs is developed in PSCAD/EMTDC, and the validity and feasibility of the proposed method can be proved by the simulation results. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
