| Abstract | As a result of both the better understanding of complex plasma phenomena and the development of new plasma sources in the past few years, plasma medicine has developed into an innovative field of research showing high potential. Experiments show that cold atmospheric plasmas allow efficient, contact-free and painless disinfection, even in microscopic openings, without damaging healthy tissue. Non thermal plasma in air or in another gas or gas mixtures at atmospheric pressure or at reduced pressure is very efficient source of active species (radicals, excited species, charged particles, photons emission covering UV up to IR wavelength range, etc.). The source of cold plasma has been developed in AP Department TPU. The developed source of non-equilibrium plasma has been investigated. The basic mechanisms of non-equilibrium plasma interaction with living tissues are shown. We demonstrate the ability of non-thermal plasma to promote blood coagulation and tissue sterilization in under 15 seconds of treatment. This plasma showed good sterilization effect for bacteria such as B. subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus 6538-Р, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli 501, Proteus vulgaris 4175, Klebsiella pneumoniae 2482). In order to exploit the potential for clinical applications, including wound healing, sterilization, blood coagulation, and cancer treatment the further investigation of the mechanisms of action of plasma at the cellular level is needed. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
