Abstract	The first session on the biomedical application of low temperature plasma was held at ICOPS 1998. Only three oral papers were presented at that session. Here we are twelve years later, with more than 100 submissions in this still emerging field. This is a clear testament on how fast this fascinating multidisciplinary field is growing. Today, research has expanded to cover medical applications in order to meet challenges still posed by hard to cure health conditions. These include chronic wounds, cancer, neurodegenrative diseases, etc… It is the honor of the conference organizers to welcome you, the leading researchers in this field, to this inaugural special session. We are confident that the conference attendees will greatly enjoy your presentations and will discover the cutting edge research that you are conducting in your laboratries. Thank you for coming and sharing with us your excellent work.
