Abstract	The combined steel lead damper (CSLD) is made up of steel and lead material skillfully. It is a high performance damper with merits of simple production process and economy. Based on the test study of I-section CSLD, take into account the nonlinear constitutive relationship of materials and the contact action between the two materials, finite element models were proposed to simulate the damper. The comparison of the test results and numerical results show that finite element model can simulate the damper accurately. The study shows that the CSLD is an excellent damper which has favorable hysteretic performance and stable energy-dissipation capacity.
