| Abstract | The differences of muscle responses to magnetic nerve stimulation with different coil current waveforms were predicted using cable theory and investigated on the median nerve in a human subject. The mono- and biphasic coil current whose time derivatives were bi- and triphasic with the equivalent 1st phase were compared concerning (1) the excitation threshold, (2) latency and (3) amplitude of compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs). The effect of different coil current directions, proximal or distal, at the intersection of a figure-eight coil were also considered. The combinations of the coil current waveforms and directions were termed MONO-PROX, MONO-DIST, BI-PROX and BI-DIST, where MONO- and BI-corresponded to monophasic and biphasic, and PROX and DIST to proximal and distal, respectively. The results in man were that (1) the excitation threshold was the lowest with BI-DTST, (2) the latencies with MONO-PROX and BI-PROX were equivalent to each other, and (3) the amplitudes of CMAPs with BIPROX and BI-DIST were almost equivalent and larger than with the others. The results in man were generally consistent with predictions, except for the evaluation of "cathode distal" effect. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
