| Abstract | Every ship has a 'home port.' Regardless of where it may travel, which oceans it may cross, or at which ports it may dock, the central location or 'point of registry' is displayed proudly on its hull. As with every ship leaving port on a new adventure, the captain navigates the seas successfully armed with a plotted course, a dedicated and experienced crew, and a plan to expect the unexpected. The captain relies on the partnerships formed on the seas, and the professional yet adventurous spirit of those along for the ride. In early 2009, the Savannah College of Art and Design announced their newest path to adventure. An opportunity unlike any they had navigated in the past 30 years of their existence. Tasked to be the first United States university to open a dedicated location in Hong Kong and the only university in Hong Kong focused exclusively on art and design, SCAD will provide a full course offering in nine majors by fall 2010. Directed by their known standards of providing consistent, high level service and technology, managing the technology related purchases, training and support from their home port in Savannah was uncharted waters. Review how SCAD utilized their proven plans, which consists of a policy of centralized procurement for IT purchases with a pre-approval request process, strong industry partnerships, their college-wide technology policy, centralized staff and faculty training, and one-stop technology support center to keep the flow and growth moving. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
