| Abstract | Square cross-section lead zirconate titanate (PZT5) fibers were fabricated by viscous polymer processing. Fibers were perpendicularly arranged in glass tubes and infiltrated with bisphenol-A epoxy resin E51 to form 1–3 composite structures. Phase, micromorphology, mechanical properties and electric properties were identified for fibers and composites. As a result, PZT5 ceramic fibers sintering at high temperature above 1280 °C have pure trigonal perovskite phase and side length of ~300 μm. A brittle broken mechanism was put forward by the linear stress–strain curves of PZT5 fibers. 1–3 composites with 30 % fiber volume fraction demonstrated closed and saturated P–E loops, high remnant polarization P $_{r}$ of 15.94 μC/cm$^{2}$ and low coercive field E $_{c}$ of 0.91 kV/mm. Moreover, the composites performed high piezoelectric strain constant d $_{33}$, piezoelectric voltage constant g $_{33}$ and high anisotropy parameters k $_{t}$/k $_{p}$. The acoustic impedance Z was about one-third of PZT5 ceramics. The above performances of PZT5 composites showed an excellent application prospect in the fields of ultrasonic medical imaging systems and nondestructive testing. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
