| Abstract | Communicative activities have been claimed to correlate with an increase in motivation. A number of theoretical approaches to such concept has failed to provide a clear definition and cosequently the close relationship between communicative activity and motivation has not been fully explored in empirical studies. This paper holds that the well-established distinction between forms-oriented activities and meaning-oriented activities captures the essence of the communicative/non communicative distinction and provides a meaningful variable that may account for differentiated motivational responses, i.e. different degrees of students’ participation and cognitive activity. |
