| Abstract | In order to achieve accurate numerical simulation of the injection molding process, a good comprehension of the cooling and solidification phase is required. In the case of semi-crystalline polymers such as polypropylene, this task is complicated because of a strong coupling between heat transfer, crystallization, material compressibility and thermophysical properties evolution. In this work, after the thermophysical characterization of the material, a model of the isochoric cooling including the pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) behaviour is presented. This model enables us to compute the evolution of pressure, temperature, relative crystallinity and local specific volume in the mold cavity from high initial pressure down to atmospheric pressure and shrinkage onset. |
