Abstract	The problems related to the integrated management of municipal solid waste have as a starting point for finding solutions to the recognition of components in the "urban waste" by gravimetric characterization of its composition to identify categories of segregation at source when generating the deployment of programs of selective collection. This work aims to raise gravimetric data on composition of municipal solid waste in urban and rural municipality of Cocal do Sul SC disposed of in landfill CIRSURES and provide subsidies for development of integrated management plan. To achieve the objectives of the evaluation was made of the current collection and deposit of waste, removal of the per capita generation of waste, and characterization of it. The results showed that in Cocal do Sul SC almost all (98%) of households in urban areas are served by the garbage collection, which is held during the day. The direct method of collection is regularly maintained in the planning. The per capita generation of garbage is 0.44 kg / inhabitants / day. The composition shows gravimetric organic matter 37.41%, 43.52% potentially recyclable material, 19.08% of tailings and other materials.
