| Abstract | This paper takes as its starting point the Law 10.639/03, which establishes the compulsory teaching of African and African-Brazilian history and culture in educational institutions. Then, it goes back to the early twentieth century to understand how Negroes were treated in textbooks from that time, a period when legislation for these school supplies was consolidated in the country. At the same time, with the decline of racial theories in Brazil, it was intended to create a nation where all Brazilians would have a common identity. The object of research is the book of History of Brazil Nossa Patria: narracao dos factos da Historia do Brasil, atraves da sua evolucao com muitas gravuras explicativas , by Rocha Pombo (1925), whose publication was strong in schooling in the first half of twentieth century. |
