| Abstract | Through a comparative study between some institutions dedicated to distance education identified the characteristics, functions and competences that a professor should have in order to participate in higher education programs at the "Instituto Politecnico Nacional," and to work as a tutor through the use of Information and Communication Technologies. For the selection of these three items recovered from various proposals, which were also integrated into a model, was taken as reference the current education program in the institute. The elements that identify this teacher are: job requirements, educational background, personal attributes, academic activities and tutorial actions; also the candidate performs functions such as teaching, updating, interaction, feedback, support, evaluation and research. The adequate competences are cognitive, educational, interpersonal, technical and related to research. |
