| Abstract | The discussion concerning environmental protection has growingly earned the attention of the international community in the past decades, but there are still great difficulties to be overcome in favor of such protection. In parallel, the matter of the plurality of specialized international tribunals is also subject to controversy in international deliberations, and thus the debate on the possible creation of a special court for international environmental litigation hatches. This paper analyses how this idea is currently seen in the international context, as well as the perspectives for the outcome of such idea. It initially presents a background on the plurality of international tribunals, followed by an analysis of how these tribunals encompass the environmental issue in the resolution of contentious cases submitted to them.
