| Abstract | A journalistic opinion piece is characterized by the argumentative activity oriented towards the defense of a point of view on different themes. In order to defend his thesis, the orator articulates proofs which support his discourse. According to Aristotle, in rhetoric, such proofs are relative to the discourse itself (logos) through arguments and fi gures; through the passions felt by the auditorium (pathos) and, fi nally, through the self-image constructed by the orator during the discursive activity (ethos). All these proofs are coordinated and oriented regarding the fi nal objective of rhetoric discourse, which is to persuade. In the present paper, our focus shall be upon the analysis of the ethos as an argumentative strategy in a journalistic opinion piece, whose title is “Para alem do niilismo” (Folha de S.Paulo, May 6th, 2013). |
