| Abstract | Education in Brazil and the teaching practice in Sciences is a much discussed topic, as well as the teacher's performance and teaching methods. In science teaching, especially the botany area, it is hampered not only by the lack of stimulation in observing and interacting with plants, but also by the lack of methodologies that can aid in learning. It is important that the science teacher develops differentiated teaching methods and can explore new spaces as an innovative medium. The exploration of a non-formal space can be an alternative that will facilitate the process of teaching learning in the area of botany. This work envisages the use of the public square as a teaching space in the botanical area, in which it will be investigated whether it can be a good methodology for teachers to use in their classes. The methodological sequence was the development of plant morphology classes in different educational spaces, the formal classroom and the public square, with two classes of the 6th grade, denominated A and B with a quantitative of 25 students, each of both sexes and age group between 12 and 14 years. For data collection at the end of each class, a questionnaire containing 10 questions of multiple choice was applied to quantify the correct answers and errors related to the content and their results were analyzed in tables and graphs. The results show that, with the use of non-formal space, students' scores were better than formal space, corroborating with the idea that classes in other spaces can help in learning and make teaching more dynamic and attractive. In addition, the realization of the class in the square allowed the students a contact with the natural environment facilitating the process of teaching learning. |
