| Abstract | BOGONI, A. (2009). Projects for the Future of Retirement. 108 pages. Thesis (Master’s degree in Psychology) Pos-Graduation Program in Psychology in the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis. This research was aimed to investigate the personal future projects of pre-retirees and recent retirees who participate in the Program of Preparation for Retirement Retire-Action (Programa de Preparação para Aposentadoria Aposenta-Ação), offered by the Information and Vocational Guidance Laboratory, of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina). The personal and professional trajectories of this group were studied, how they deal with their retirement and their statements about the future. The group of study was composed of 15 participants in the Program Retire Action, 8 men and 7 women, aged between 47 and 66 years old, 11 pre-retirees and 4 newly retired from different formation backgrounds and professional performances. There wasn ́t any selection of the participants, because the same criteria to participate in the Retires Action was used, i.e. in order to participate in this research the period of three years from the retirement date was stipulated, both for the persons who is about to retire (pre-retired) and for those who are already retired (recently retired). The research was carried out considering a qualitative approach. A semi-structured interview and the preparation of an essay about the personal future of each participant were used as tools for data collection. Data analysis was based on content analysis and statements of the participants. The study of personal and professional trajectories of the research participants allowed some conclusions about the relationship they establish with retirement: this goes from individual to the social and vice versa; in order to understand the retirement process of a subject it is necessary to interact with life trajectory of each individual; retirement is perceived by respondents as a new choice, interdependent and consequent of the past and as important as the other choices of their personal trajectories. There is a direct relationship between the calm to cope with the retirement and the assertiveness of previous choices, especially professional choices, as well as the space that the work occupies in the life of each person. The research findings have identified six broad categories of analysis of future projects, namely: (a) personal development projects, (b) projects related to leisure, (c) projects related to health, (d) financial projects; (e) projects related to various pleasurable activities, and (f) projects characterized by the search for adaptation and overcoming difficulties in retirement. However, it was verified that not all the individuals have clearly defined actions in order to put in practice their goals, some being perceived by the researcher as unworkable and vague. This can be justified by the centrality of the work in human life and the difficulties to break with their IDs. This conclusions aim to the need for a more effective performance of Psychology at retirement, not only when it occurs, but as preparation for the lifetime of the individuals. |
