| Abstract | Cocoa cultivation is closely linked to economic, historical and cultural aspects of Ecuador. The study was developed at Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, given its importance in the production of cocoa. In relation to this town, a search was conducted in the databases of various higher education institutions in the country and dissertations found studying some aspect of cocoa were analyzed. Scopus hosted publications that addressed some aspect of cocoa were also analyzed in order to identify opportunities for research and publication in relation to cocoa. The information gathered from the above sources was subjected to univariate analysis of frequencies and percentages presented through graphs; specifically for matters related to the final assignments the social network analysis through UCINET 6 for Windows was used. Generally, the amounts of articles published in the last five years and defended dissertation were identified; authors, institutions and leading countries in cocoa research; most concentrated areas of research; scientific leaders; most researched topics; as well as countries to which the analyzed territory has tried to export cocoa. It s possible to conclude that there is a research space in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas in relation to cocoa which can be exploited in terms of improving the visibility of this product in the international context. |
