| Abstract | Although the studies on the use of literature in teaching English have been increasing abroad, in our country, particu- larly in public high schools, only English grammar is being taught. The students who are expected to memorise these rules cannot use English. The aim of this study is to exhibit why and how short-story can be used in order to teach English effectively and efficiently. OZET: ‹ngilizceyi etkili ve ifllevsel olarak o¤retebilmek icin dil eitiminde yaz›n kullan›m›yla ilgili cal›flmalar ve uygulamalar giderek yayg›nlaflmaktad›r. Ancak, ulkemizde ozellikle devlet liselerinde, ‹ngilizce derslerinde hala yaln›zca ‹ngilizce dilbilgisi kurallar› o¤retilmekte; bu kurallar› ezberlemeleri beklenilen o¤rencilerse ‹ngilizceyi kullanamamaktad›r. Bu cal›flman›n amac›, o¤rencilerin ‹ngilizceyi etkili ve ifllevsel bir bicimde kullanabilmeri icin k›sa oykunun nicin ve nas›l kullan›lmas› gerektiini gostermektir.
